vncviewer and VMware-Workstation 6

When VMware Worstation 6 was released, one of the new features I was interested in was console access via VNC.  This meant I could leave a VM running on my machine at home, and connect to the console with vncviewer (linux/FreeBSD) or Chicken of the VNC (MacOS X) through a SSH tunnel.  This means no need to have the vmware console application on the local machine and that is especially true for my current Mac laptop.  VMware Fusion does not support the PPC processor in my laptop.

I purchased the upgrade and tried it out.  It worked great for a text based console.  On any X console, I saw the mouse cursor travel south east and just sit there.  I tried different VNC clients but they were all the same.  The mouse only worked correctly with the vmware application itself.

Fast forward to the present and I finally googled paydirt: (http://www.realvnc.com/pipermail/vnc-list/2005-April/050525.html).  You need vmware tools installed in the guest OS before the mouse will work correctly.

Off I go on to the next problem, vmware-tools on Solaris 8, 9 and 10.
